The day finally arrived. The day our horses got to stretch there legs, in the BIG pasture with green stuff growing in it! For the first time, ever!!!
Brad turned horses out into the dry lot first |
He joined up at the far end of the pasture |
they settled into grazing by the pines (iphone pic) |
I walked back, and left them to be horses(iphone pic) |
After one hour, Brad haltered Nemo |
they all headed back |
I found it interesting that after being in the big pasture, they hung out unusually close to each other (iphone) |
after tearing up the fields, Koda & Nemo were all tuckered out (iphone pic, through my window) |
Watching and hearing our horses run free, like the wind, was priceless...it sounded and felt like the spirit of freedom. It makes every ounce of painful moving, worth it.
"I have seen things so beautiful they have brought tears to my eyes.
Yet none of them can match the gracefulness and beauty
of a horse running free."

My heart soars for them!! That is the way it's meant to be, and I feel sorry for horses who don't get to experience it!! They were born for it!!
Yes, it makes it all worth it.
The hard part for me is keeping them off the pasture. I've had two get laminitis, probably because I wasn't careful enough. I just love to see them happy though.
On a more positive note, however, think of all the thousands of times you'll get to see that beautiful sight of your horses running free and grazing. It's good for the soul. Some day we'll be in nursing homes thinking back at those moments.
I am so happy for them too Linda! They are such good horses, and deserve nothing but the best we can offer them. It's no 500 acres, but enough to stretch legs. All horses should be loved & cared for, unfortunately too many aren't. We will have to keep on eye on Koda. Much like his owner, he eats too much. He will likely end up using a grazing muzzle. Actually what he really needs is to be ridden regularly. It makes such a huge difference. I look at them every time I walk past our windows. It's still hard for me to believe this is real...
I'm so happy for all of you. Congratulations!
That’s one herd of happy horses! This is the way nature intended them to live, not locked in stalls in barns all day. They are just happier and healthier out all day. Sometimes ours refuse to come in at night when the weather is nice. You’ll find that watching them all day in the field interacting with each other is better than watching tv. I sometimes heave to use grazing muzzles or they’ll have laminitis or be waddling in with grass loaded bellies. But it’s all worth it to have them happy and living as naturally as they can. I’m so happy for all of you! Hope you get to start riding soon.
At last, the view that you and Brad have worked so hard for- looking at your horses out of your window, and seeing them running in your own pasture. What a beautiful sight and beautiful photos. Your heart must be bursting.
Love that little heels in the air on the video!
What a great feeling - for them and for you two as well - I love the sight & sound of my horses running up from the back forty. Snort, SNORT, snorting.
*sigh* No more beautiful site than your own horses running or grazing freely in your very own home pasture! I am SO happy for you guys - all of you!!! :)
I love it! And, thanks for stopping by my blog. We have been quite busy, and I just haven't felt like writing on my blog lately. No even sure why...but we're good.
Thanks for letting me know Lorie. I go through fazes like that. Write when you feel like sharing, and until then - know you are missed.
