Every two weeks or so our pasture feeder needs to be refilled. Brad has mastered it by himself, and doesn't need my help any more. Most people remove the horses from said area, but not my guy. I guess he likes interacting with the horses while removing the net. Not me, I captured the crazy from the deck...
Harmony
Not sure if it was because we woke Harmony up from her nap, but our old girl was feeling extra fresh while Brad removed the net. There were times when she was doing her own little dance, repeatedly with all four feet off the ground. Sharing just a few of the many photos. It was funny to watch, and fun to photograph. Of course Harmony wasn't the only one feeling fresh. Lots of herd dynamics going on while I captured the crazy...

Brad and net made it out in one piece. He opened the gate to the upper pasture to close them out, so he could load the big bale with McBouncy the bobcat. The crazy continued as Brad encouraged them into the upper pasture.

Our herd peacefully ended their antics and gathered around together to enjoy the big pacifier. Hay.

Wow you got some great photos! Such fun to watch them frolic.
Such beautiful photos of your herd!! Especially the one where you have to get out of the way. They're gorgeous!! That's the benefit of having them at home, isn't it?
Wow, they sure looked like they were having a good time kicking up their heels. Great pictures!
Thank you! They were very animated this time, for some reason. Especially Harmony. I have never seen her have so much fun, so glad I had my camera in hand. She doesn't normally engage in the crazy. Perhaps too wise, guarded or the silliness is beneath her. Harmony usually has a "whatever" look on her face. Both girls frequently do not want any part of Nemo's rousing. Koda is usually game. Much of the time because of my vantage point I was just watching it unfold, and laughing.
I’m surprised a bale lasts you two weeks. The net must really slow them down. Ours eat through 700 lb bales in 4-5 days. Cowgirl eats through hers in about 3 weeks.
Linda, the slow feed net does help. We love our nets, these are the ones we use in the barn/pasture/shows: https://orangeslowfeeder.com/
I think the difference is our bales are packed very tight and weigh around 800-900lbs. Also, we are pasture feeding fewer horses (four) during dawn-dusk turnout only. Our horses come inside every night, and each get a hay net with 3-4 small bale flakes.
I have heard that the net really helps them slow down eating...more like grazing! They sure had a run around!!
Just gives your heart a bit of joy to see them enjoying life and feeling so very good, doesn't it? Play is important for all living creatures...
That looks like they are having fun!
I always wanted to try a huge net like that as the gals always pulled out hay and laid on it instead of eating it.
