the face says it all

This face, so expressive. Photo was taken on a day where the weather matched Koda's face, that matched his hair, that matched his energy level. Brisk, fresh and energetic. Three words that anyone who knows Koda, wouldn't typically use to describe him. We all have our wild hair days, horses are no different.

The weather has warmed up significantly, almost too much. Feels like August, in May. Makes a person wonder, will we have early fall in August? or just be baked to a crisp?

We've enjoyed some nice rides, what a difference being outside makes! I am trying hard to focus on listening and working together, and less on how long or correctly we ride.

Our little herd got moved back into the big pasture for turnout, and they were plenty happy about it! It is more diverse with a small woody area, centrally located, and has a shelter. Consequently, we've mixed in a little field riding in preparation for heading out on the trails this summer. It's been a year and a half since we've ridden in a field, or out on the trail. Feels like forever.

I am looking forward to spending time in the woods with Brad, Koda & Nemo. Exploring. Relaxing. Taking in all the goodness, and living in the moment.

When that first trail day arrives, I'm hoping for a calm face, not only on Koda - but me too!!

Great picture! Love his expression. I'm sure you'll be trail riding sooner than later. We have hot August weather right now too. Unusual for the Northeast. Virtually no Spring weather this year.

Bet you can't wait to get your horses on your land. Are there local trails there that you can go out on right from your place?

He's so cute! I say, good for you deciding to focus on the relationship rather than just correctness. When it's all said and done, we'll remember the pleasures of riding and enjoying our horse's company and our adventures together - not how correct we rode. Seems like weather is rather unusual for folks everywhere, us included. We've had the mixed bag. Beautiful sunny spring days, HOT summer bursts and now we're having cloudy, cool, overcast with a chance of showers. We're going camping this W/E with our riding group and I'm SO looking forward to perfect trail riding weather and campfire times!! I'm not taking Eagle, just not quite ready for that, although I hope to hit the trails with my boy really soon. Got Missy's shoes on and hoping she is sound and comfortable enough for just relaxed, easy trail riding. It's been a long time for us too.

Thanks Arlene, looks like we'll both be baking outside for a while!

Shirley, there are no trail systems that connect to our land - wouldn't that be nice! We plan to make more trails in our woods, and eventually hope to get permission to ride on surrounding acreage.

What a handsome boy Koda is!! I, too, am more focused on listening to my horse(s) and developing a great relationship rather than structured, technical riding sessions. Griffin has taught me the value of this....and now more than ever, the time we can enjoy together is far more important than technical accomplishments or deadlines.
