mosquitos

To say the least, we have been having a terrible time with mosquitos. They are cramping our style. We can't ride out on the trail...what works for you to fend off mosquitos??

There used to be a really good spray out there called Horse and Rider, no idea who made it. but most sprays only work for a while.I use smudges when its really bad , but that only helps in pasture.I am not too much help to you . Shirley at Ride a good horse uses garlic in the feed to ward of mosquitos , not too sure how well it works

The only thing I've ever found that works is Mosquito Halt, which is really nasty, hazardous stuff. A face mask for the horse really helps too. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions! I thought about face masks, but wondered if little bugs get through the mesh? If they work, it would be worth a try to be able to get out on the trail. They really target their faces. Spray would work for us on their bodies, we don't ride that long.

Now the pasture is another story...we still have standing water in one corner - which doesn't help.

When we ride we use Wipe on the horses' faces and Bronco for everything else and Deepwoods for us. I were a sunglasses, a big old hat, long sleeve shirt (collar buttoned up), and leather gloves so there's not much of me showing to have to spray. We spray the stuff on thick that we put on the horses.

I also find sticking around the cows to be safer as far a bugs go and staying out of the tall grass.

I feel your pain the bugs are terrible by us also. We are starting to have campfire withdrawls, but I guess that is better than being attacked by mosquitoes. Hang in there they soon will pass.
