too much of a good thing

Rain is a good thing. Except when you get too much, too fast. This summer the Midwest is all about storms, and hard rain. The kind that gutters, rivers and sewers can't handle when it comes down all at once. We don't have flooding nearly as bad as some other area's in WI, but it's still prevalent. The storms seem endless.

We get water in one area of our current unfinished basement, when the hard rain hits just right. Basements of those living closer to rivers are completely flooded with multiple feet of water. There are many cancelled events. I always feel for the animals that can't help themselves out of situations.

In our future house without a roof, we have our own lake developing...

drips down to the basement, through the floor

Our second group trail ride date is rapidly approaching. The reserve we were hoping to ride at is under water, and trails are closed. More storms forecasted for this weekend, and heat warnings continue. Below is a screenshot they posted from one of the roads along the reserve. It looks like we will either have to cancel plans, or try to find open prairie type trails away from rivers. Sigh.

There is a lot more happening in our world then rain. Hope to share a barn update sooner then later, before it gets too far along. Not that being far along would be a bad thing!

It's the same here in NY, rain, heat, flooding, rain, more rain...

Same here in N.Y. Im sick of the rain and I hate the heat. It's so muggy and miserable. Hope you find somewhere to ride out with your group.

Sure makes it hard to enjoy summer. Hope things dry up & cool off a bit for all of us.

We have the opposite here- no substantial rain since June. I'd have to look back on my blog to see but I think we are into 6 weeks of heat wave. Got a couple of hours of light rain during the night a few days ago, but it wasn't enough to cut the dust in the horse pens. The province of BC is under a state of emergency with fires everywhere in the central region, (not in our area....yet...) lots of town evacuations. We sure could use some of your rain.

I saw there were horrible fires in BC in the news, and wondered how close that was to you. If only I could send some rain your way!!

Oh boy, I feel for you, you must be very worried about what the water will do to your place. :-(

The water in the basement doesn't bother me as much (base lumber is treated) as the house flooring does...hopefully they can get the rest of the roof closed up before the next monsoon. They are waiting on some materials to arrive. Supposedly they are coming Monday, not holding my breath.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with water. You may remember our basement flooding this last winter. We still haven't recovered from it. That was smart of you to use treated lumber!! We didn't. We're currently trying to decide how to handle the flooring, in case it happens again. Do we paint the floor? Carpet again? Tile? Just don't know.
