When we met Cierra as a baby, she looked like this...
...after a few visits, and clipping, we were surprised to find a much darker girl...
...Cierra came home with us. Over the winter she grew a warm coat...
...we weren't sure what color she would be in the spring. Cierra turned a pretty dark smokey black color...
...but that didn't last long. Cierra started getting lighter from the bottom up. Anyone care to explain that to me, I would think horses get lighter from the top down...
...we are enjoying her summer look. These were taken a few days ago...
...it's fun watching Cierra grow, and change the many color shades of sweetness!!

She is so adorable - any color! Lucky you!
She is gorgeous , Grulla??
She is beautiful in all her colors. Interesting changes. But then, she's a female, so she likes to change her hair color.
What a good looking bay she is, I think where they change colour is down to a lot of things, but it might be to do with her getting hotter from the bottom up and as a result growing a summer coat there first.

Edward
Thanks all! We really don't care what color Cierra is, her best quality is her personality - which is hands down better then any color out there (in my opinion). However, it is fun to watch her ever changing color!
Fern, Cierra is actually registered a Smokey Black - but she sure doesn't look like one when she lightens up!
Her breeder recommends adding paprika to feed, and fly sheets, to retain dark color. We don't because we kinda like our lil buckskin, er I mean light smokey black ;)
