My son, aka "the boy who doesn't like horses", really does like them. Just look at what I caught on camera, when he didn't know I was watching...
Our son resting on the filly, and scratching her favorite spot, while talking to Brad. Nemo was being so patient. |
...horses just love him. Harmony walked right up to him when he arrived (we were doing a warm-up get ready to listen to me lunge, with Koda & Nemo) as if to say "oh, you came to ride me?". She got some love from him too. Then I saw this...
Filly gets a hug from the boy. Not the best picture of him, but he does like her and thinks she's pretty cool. |
The hug got sweeter, then the boy realized I was taking pictures. I got a "really mom" and to that I said "really, and I'm blogging about it too". If only he knew...we think someday he will. He's such a good helpful kid, wouldn't trade him for the world, always helping out with our horse chores.
We finished tacking up, and the boy left. I was hoping to ride on the south side of the farm, where the old windmill is - but...extended family was bow hunting, sigh. So, off to the north we went. It was a nice ride, not sure I would call it peaceful tho. It's not as secluded as the south side of the farm, which is why they hunt there. But anytime I get to ride, is a good day - regardless of where it is. Especially when we haven't ridden in a week. Koda had several spooks that came outta nowhere (as most any of them do) - meaning I didn't see what he saw/felt. Nothing major, just young horses and windy Fall smells/movement. Here is my Koda, munching on some fresh grass after the ride.

Your boy does seem to like that filly! Glad you managed to get in a ride.
What a great kid you have ! I kinda figured he might like horses a little underneath it all
My youngest will still ride with me occasionally, but not often. He's a good rider though. We went to see Secretariat last night & I loved watching it with him. He loved it, too. I asked if he was glad he grew up around horses and knew how to ride. He said "yes", he was. Someday, he'll make a horse crazy wife happy. So will your son.
I rode out a good spook yesterday, too. Thought I was eating dirt for a second...
Enjoy fall. I sure am!
Aww look at that sweet picture =) I agree some day he will make a horse crazy wife happy.
My Maizie acts like she isn't too horse crazy either. The poor honey is terribly allergic to horses so I think it is tough for her to love something that makes her face swell shut. She is getting better with the allergies. Great sneaky photos capturing your son giving the filly the loving! Glad you were able to ride away from the bow hunters. Koda looks like he is enjoying his after-ride grass. I like to spoil my boys with special grass or apples after they spoil me with a ride!
Yep, he's a good kid - and I would love it if he ended up with a horse crazy wife. Then we could all go trail riding together!
Thanks Kate, it gets harder to get rides in as the days get shorter, and winter gets closer.
Fern, I figured you would know :)
Jeni, it was funny today he was petting the filly in the woods, turned and saw me watching, and stopped. I was snapping pics as much as I could, but didn't catch that one. She's pretty hard to resist, she's in everyone's pocket.
Juliette, sorry to hear about Maizie's allergies - I can't blame her for not being horse crazy. Glad she's getting better. I have seasonal allergies, altho they are less severe I can relate.
How could that filly not steal his heart?
